I have had a passion for fishing for as long as I can remember. It started out back in my home town of Evans Head on the far north coast of NSW. I spent many days fishing with my dad either floating baits for snapper or catching bream and whiting in the rivers.

My interest in tournament fishing took off however when I was gifted a DVD featuring the AFC (Australia Fishing Championship). As a thirteen year old I was blown away with the quality of the fish the anglers were catching on lures and just had to try it myself. I spent countless weekends practicing this trade and learned something new every time I was out their .

In 2009 I moved to the Gold Coast and quickly learned how different it fished compared to the big river systems of Northern NSW. Due to the bigger population these fish saw more lures and we’re definitely harder to fool. Again I spent many days exploring the thousands of canal systems that make up that waterway. In 2010 I entered my first ever tournament, The Easter Classic. Unfortuntely things didn’t quite go our way but I was hooked. I loved the pressure of being timed and having to compete with the other anglers.

Following that first tournament I have competed in my other competitions such as GTS, ABT, and BETS. I have also been fortunate enough to compete against some of the best anglers in the country and have had a fair bit of success so far in my career.

I also have spent a lot of time over the past few years targeting other species such as Tuna, Marlin, Snapper and Bass with my mate Craig Ullmann. Tournament fishing is awesome but it is important to change things up however the social aspect far out ways any other form of fishing.

Recently I have moved to Warrnambool in Victoria. I am looking forward to the challenge of learning to catch the elusive black bream and the big brown trout that this area is famous for. I can’t wait!

Hopefully during my adventures I hope to meet you all and share a yarn. If you ever have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me. You can do this via my Facebook page, Joshua Kirkness Fishing. Catch ya later and enjoy the challenge of lure fishing.
