I call Cairns home now but I am originally from Mildura, Victoria, I spent my childhood down on the banks of the mighty Murray River, drowning worms and having a blast with my mates. This style of fishing soon gave way to trolling large lures from the back of a tinny, in search of the famous Murray Cod. Snagging that magic metre was the only thing on my mind back then and just for the record, I am yet to achieve this goal. My personal best is just over 80cm.
I spent a few years in Brisbane where most of my fishing was from my trusty Hobie kayak. This is where my fascination with Bass fishing begun. The humble bass is such an incredible fighting fish and pound for pound must be considered one of the elite sporting fish in this country. I was active on the kayak tournament scene and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting new people and learning new techniques. You cannot put a price on the experience you gain as an angler by fishing competition, there is just something about that environment that becomes a massive melting pot for self-improvement.
Now back in the tropical paradise that is Cairns, I have a JP itch which I am sure most anglers can relate to. There is just something mystical that draws me to this amazing fish. I love everything about Jungle Perch fishing. I love the trekking through unspoilt jungles, finding that ‘honey hole’ and most of all, I love the strike of this ferocious little fish as it smashes my surface lure. If I am not out exploring the jungles, you will find me chasing Barra or anything else foolish enough to engulf my presentation.
I am humbled and excited to be re-joining the Frogleys Offshore crew and I hope you enjoy sharing my experiences.
See you on the water
